Baking Whoopie whoopie pies will begin gracing the shelves of Bob's Market on Ocean Park in Santa Monica beginning Friday, May 28th. Just in time for those Memorial Day BBQ's!! Other places you can get your Baking Whoopie whoopie pie fix are Owen's Market by Mindy Weiss and The Cabbage Patch restaurant in Beverly Hills. You can, of course, also buy them on-line for local delivery in the Los Angeles area and we ship across the country.

Also, look for an article on Baking Whoopie in the August 1st issue of American Way Magazine (American Airline's in-flight publication). Pie in the sky!!!

"Good afternoon!

We had a glorious day at Austin “Kip” Kiplinger’s for the steeplechase and if you go to today’s Washington Post (www.washingtonpost.com/metro) you can get even more of a flavor of the event itself than the pictures.

In terms of my tailgate, the complete hit of the buffet were the Baking Whoopie whoppie pies! That they came from LA was cool, but the flavors, texture, and creaminess completely carried the day. One guest who never had a whoopee pie pronounced them “divine,” and a client of ours told me to tell you he has eaten many a whoopee pie in Maine at his summer home, but none were as good as yours!"

So thank you so much – I will be ordering again very soon!!!!

Summer of Whoopie

Well, we've been very creative over here at Baking Whoopie and have come up with the ultimate Summer Whoopie pie; Strawberries and Cream! Two of our vanilla cakes meet Harry's Berries Strawberry Creme. We love Harry's Berries strawberries; the Oxnard-based farm, owned by Rick and Molly Gean, grows the sweetest, most delicious Gaviota strawberries this side of the moon. If you haven't had them yet, check them out at the Farmers Market. We usually get ours at the Wednesday and/or Saturday market in Santa Monica but they're at many other markets as well.

Maine Whoopie Pie Festival

We're contemplating "bringing coals to Newcastle" next month by participating in the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival. Maine, of course, is one of the places where the whoopie pie originated (the other is Amish Country in PA...). Wonder what they'll think of our Red Velvet with Mocha Creme...pretty different and VERY delicious!!

BEAUTIFUL WHOOPIES...

Did you know that you really DON'T need to buy and use the special whoopie pie pan that some specialty gourmet stores are hocking alongside their whoopie pie mixes? Save the $25 and put it into your saving for a Baking Whoopie day piggy bank. Instead, use a pastry bag and pipe circles of the whoopie pie dough onto a parchment paper-covered sheet pan (be sure to lightly spray with Pam). If you want to get fancy and have some fun, try playing around with some large star-shaped pastry tips. Nothing like trying out some new toys when you're Baking Whoopie!
